TWO AMAZING WOMEN MADE HISTORY ON TONY NIGHT

This year’s 2015 TONY AWARDS was not just another award ceremony, it was the night Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori made history as the first EVER all-female writing team to win a Tony Award for a Musical Score for Fun Home.

This is also not just any musical it is a musical about a woman who happens to be a lesbian with a gay father. It explores the emotions of a woman coming to terms with her own sexual orientation. Lisa Kron is the book writer/lyricist and Jeanine Tesori composed the music. Fun Home is based on Alison Bechdel’s memoir written in comic format first published in 2006 to critical acclaim.

UNCOVERING AMAZING WOMEN

My book One Nation, One Mission, One Promise – the continuing journey of fulfilling the promises made on July 4, 1776 celebrates how far we have come as a nation and the possibilities for our future are endless.

The research I have done for the book, and the play I am currently writing, consistently uncovered amazing women and men from all walks of life who broke barriers for every level of society. Yesterday it was Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori whose award is celebrated by women around the world who love theater and are themselves creating their own musicals as I write.

WOMEN & THE VOTE

I have also been fascinated by the amazing efforts of two extraordinary women who not only led the movement for us to vote, but it is because of them that women enjoy everything we have today. These two women were Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.

So, in honor of two extraordinary women in 1848 and Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori in 2015, I created this video to celebrate everything women have accomplished. Ground-breaking women featured in the video include:

• Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori, Tony Award Winners
