HONORING THOSE WHO SERVED
Opposite the Statue of Liberty is a beautiful bronze eagle and in between these two majestic sites symbolizing freedom are the names of 4,600 veterans who lost their lives in the Atlantic during WWII. When I look at all their names, I realized that we don’t know their political affiliation, what their gender connection was, because they could not speak of it then, we don’t know their religious beliefs or their cultural backgrounds.
They were people from all over the United States, from different walks of life who came together to protect our Charters of Freedom: The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and The Bill of Rights. We honor them on Veterans Day, all the men, women and children (because we do know that there were children who gave their lives as well), from the birth of this country to today, who scrificed for us to live our best lives. My father was a decorated veteran. I also have other family who served in different positions in the National Guard and even retiring as a captain in the air force. Some have served a short time and some made the military their career.
CARRYING ON THEIR LEGACY
Their legacy is for all of us. They were different, but found a way to connect, work together and inspire each other to be their best. So we may now ask, “How will each of us pay it forward?” “What will you do to inspire those around you?”
